Weaving the world
Formentera is one of the few places in the world where you can still find sweaters knitted with the wool of their own sheep.
It is on this island full of contrasts, in which the traditional past and the more cosmopolitan present intermingle, in which the authentic and the genuine coexist with the most furious current events, where we find Esperanza Ferrer as one of the most unique examples of that this meeting is not coincidental.
Because this island that captivates and awakens creativity, also keeps the essence of what is true, of what is timeless, of the style to which those designers who create trends repeatedly return; because everything has already been invented, nothing is new, because pieces of the past suddenly appear fitting perfectly into the present, and a sweater, a hat or a wool poncho will never go out of style, since what is authentic does not expire, it is and will be always.
Esperanza welcomes us with a smile in her store in Sant Francesc, proud of the success of her garments. Because in those hands that have washed, carded, spun, dyed and woven the sheep’s wool, he treasures the truth of a tradition inherited from his mother, from his grandmother, who received a boost with the arrival of the hippies to the island and who It has been perpetuated to this day.
She tells us, shrugging her shoulders, that she makes her clothes without really knowing if her effort and meticulous dedication will be rewarded, as if not everyone could understand the value they have; because Esperanza’s store, she tells us lamentingly, is the last one where we find this type of clothing in Formentera. But she continues to create it naturally and with affection, because she knows better than anyone that, despite everything, time is on her side.
